Types of freight wagons

Freight wagons are designed to move and transport goods according to the type of cargo in order to prevent damage to the cargo. Types of freight wagons are:

Roofing wagons

Covered wagons are such that after placing the cargo in it, by closing the side doors and sealing it, the goods are protected in every way. Therefore, it is very suitable for moving perishable goods exposed to the open air, sun, humidity or other atmospheric factors.

Short edge wagons

Short-edged wagons are used to transport hardware and building materials, as well as machinery and heavy goods. The height of the edge of these wagons is 400 to 600 mm. The side edges and hinged head are hinged so that if necessary the side edges are perpendicular to the open rail and the wagon is used as a flat wagon.

Long-edged wagon

Long-edged wagons are used for moving industrial goods, light and bulky goods and minerals. These wagons have one or two double hinged doors on the sides. The rear body of some of these wagons can be opened and closed around the upper hinge. There are valves in the floor of some of these wagons so that the evacuation operation can be done from the floor of the wagon after releasing the side toggle.

Flat wagons

Flat freight wagons are used to transport iron parts, machinery and heavy and long goods. These wagons have edges at both ends that are loaded on the desired surface when loading so that it can be loaded by vehicles from the loading platform to the wagons or from one wagon to another and is also equipped to restrain the goods. Flat-breaking wagons are also used to transport high and heavy goods.

Reservoir wagon

These wagons are used to transport liquids and petroleum products as well as gases. The thickness of the cylindrical body of the tanks is between 8 to 12 mm and covered with steel sheet. At the top of the tank wagons is a large circular door with a sturdy lid that allows repairmen to enter the source through these doors. The drain valve is located next to the main door. Also, two valves in its wall, one empties the gas inside the tank and the other valve empties the tank during evacuation. The drain valve is located at the bottom of the tanks and is equipped with a lid.

Refrigerator wagon

Refrigerated wagons are used to carry perishable goods that spoil in the presence of air and heat. The temperature of these chambers can be adjusted between -20 degrees to +4 degrees. The insulation of these wagons is made of fiberglass, acoustic sheets and lead sheets.

The cooling compressor inside the wagons is connected to the engine and the ammonia cooling gas tank, whose job is to keep the air inside the wagon cool.

Rag wagons

A special type of long-edge wagons are rake wagons that are used to transport minerals such as coal, iron ore and the like, which are equipped with a number of discharge valves along the longitudinal axis at the bottom of the wagon.

Car wagon

In order to transport passenger cars or light cargo vans, car wagons are used. These wagons are available in both roof and open form. Approximately 12 to 15 cars can be loaded in open wagons. Disadvantages of this type of wagon include the lack of protection of the car against damage caused by weather conditions.
